Okinawa is the most southwestern county in Japan, and the prefectural office is located in Naha City. Okinawa county consists of the Okinawa and Senshima Islands in the Ryukyu Islands and the Daito Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and is adjacent to Kagoshima Prefecture in Kyushu across the sea. The county consists of 160 islands, 49 of which are inhabited. It covers an area of about 2,281 square kilometers, making it the fourth smallest prefecture in Japan by land area.
